The Zone 16 Police Command, on Saturday, arrested and paraded three individuals for their involvement in illicit drug activities and fraudulent behaviour.
A statement issued by the zone’s spokesperson, SP Gunn Emonena, in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, confirmed the arrest.
Emonena explained that the Zonal Financial and Cyber Crime unit, acting on credible intelligence, raided the Rumukparali community in the Obio/Akpo Local Government Area of Rivers State to apprehend the suspects.
The arrested individuals—Billion Ndubuisi, Charles Amachree, and Martins Chinemike—confessed to impersonating Ryam Bill, a US-based figure, and defrauding St. Andrea and Charlen Zielinsky of 71,500 US Dollars.
During a search of their premises, police discovered wraps of suspected hemp, two vehicles, two laptops, and 10 mobile phones.
Additionally, the suspects, through their agent, offered a bribe of 17,000 US Dollars, which was rejected by the “well-trained reformed officers.”
“The money is registered and will be tendered as exhibits in court,” Emonena said.
The AIG of the zone, Adebola Hamzat, reiterated his commitment to protecting the lives and property of citizens within his jurisdiction and across the country.
He further emphasized that under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, the Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
