The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Taiwo Yemitan, on suspicion of ritual killing after he was found in possession of a fresh human head and dismembered body parts in Abeokuta.
SP Omolola Odutola, the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday.
Yemitan was taken into custody at about 1:40 a.m. at his residence located behind Atinsola Petrol Station in the Lafenwa area of Abeokuta.
Acting on intelligence from local security groups, including the Agbekoya and Vigilante operatives, police officers raided Yemitan’s home, uncovering the horrifying evidence.
“The suspect admitted to knowing the victim, identified as Darasimi, and confessed to luring her to his residence with the intention of killing her,” Odutola revealed.
According to Odutola, Yemitan also named two accomplices, Kehinde Yemitan and another individual identified only as Kazeem. “He confessed that their plan was to sell the victim’s head and body parts,” she added.
The remains of the victim have been taken to the Ijaye General Hospital morgue for autopsy, while efforts are underway to locate the accomplices and notify the victim’s family.
Yemitan has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran for further interrogation and prosecution.
