The Plateau State government has approved a new minimum wage of N70,000 for its workers.
He urged them to show appreciation for the move through heightened dedication and improved productivity.
The decision, confirmed in a statement on Thursday from the State Head of Civil Service, Stephen Gadong, follows a recent meeting of the state’s Committee on Consequential Adjustment on Salaries.
The meeting, held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, led to the immediate endorsement of the wage increase by Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
“Following the Agreement of the Committee on Consequential Adjustment on Salaries on November 13, 2024, the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has approved the immediate implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage for workers in the State,” Gadong stated.
Highlighting the significance of the decision, Gadong noted it as a testament to Governor Mutfwang’s commitment to improving the welfare of Plateau’s workforce, acknowledging their essential role in achieving the state’s development objectives.
“As this new wage policy takes effect, Civil Servants are encouraged to embrace this gesture by renewing their commitment to their duties with increased dedication and zeal, in order to foster a culture of productivity and excellence in service across the State,” he added.
The wage adjustment places Plateau State among the few in Nigeria to implement a substantial increase in workers’ minimum wage, a move expected to bolster morale and productivity across its civil service.
