The National Emergency Management Agency has received 148 Nigerians repatriated from the Niger Republic with support from the International Organization for Migration.
The returnees, comprising 120 adult men, nine adult women, 10 male children, seven female children, and two infants, arrived at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Tuesday, November 12.
In a statement shared on social media, NEMA’s Lagos Territorial Office confirmed the group’s arrival around 2:15 PM aboard a Skymali flight, noting the agency’s collaboration with various stakeholders for the operation.
“The NEMA Lagos Territorial Office, alongside key stakeholders, welcomed the returnees repatriated from the Niger Republic with support from the IOM,” the statement read.
Due to a heavy downpour, a brief delay occurred in transporting the returnees from the aircraft.
However, after the rain subsided, officials from the Nigerian Immigration Service and other partners, including representatives from the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, and IOM, facilitated the safe disembarkation and documentation of the group.
