The Nigerian gospel film community is grieving the loss of beloved actor Moses Korede Are, best known for his role as “Baba Gbenro” in the popular Mount Zion series, Abattoir.
His passing was confirmed by fellow actor Oluwaseun Adejumobi on social media, who paid tribute to Are on Instagram, describing the news as “Heaven’s gain again. A general has gone to rest.”
Fellow actor Zoe Adeola also honored Are’s legacy, writing on X (formerly Twitter), “Rest in peace, Baba Gbenro. Your role in Abattoir will definitely leave a great memory of you in our minds. So painful.”
Born on June 11, 1959, Are grew up in Kano State, Nigeria. His educational journey took him through Plateau State and then to southwestern Nigeria for higher studies, followed by his National Youth Service Corps program in Jigawa State.
In 1995, he founded Calvary Movies Drama Ministry, based in Ogbomoso, which grew into a significant platform for drama evangelism.
Through his ministry, he also established Calvary Movies Television, an online channel dedicated to sharing gospel-based drama productions.
Collaborating with gospel film icons like Toluwalope Israel Adegbo and Evangelist Damilola Mike-Bamiloye, Are’s memorable performances left an indelible mark on the Nigerian gospel film industry.
His role as Baba Gbenro in Abattoir has solidified his legacy, ensuring he will be remembered for years to come.
