Lagos State Government on Wednesday clarified that it has not reinstated the monthly environmental sanitation or initiated any movement restrictions starting in July.
According to The PUNCH, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, refuted the circulating report, labeling its authors as mischief makers intent on confusing the public.
The ministry’s Director of Public Affairs, Kunle Adeshina, released a statement addressing this misinformation.
Wahab advised residents to disregard the fake news and continue their daily activities, emphasizing that no movement restrictions will occur on the last Saturday of July as falsely reported.
Clarifying the governor’s actual announcement, Wahab stated that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, during a sanitation sensitisation event at Campos playground on Lagos Island, announced the initiation of a weekly community-based awareness exercise involving all residents.
“The governor also stated that State Government officials will lead from the front every week by going round to join residents in voluntarily cleaning their environment while preaching the message,” he said.
Wahab reiterated that the governor never announced the start of the monthly exercise or any movement restrictions in July or any other upcoming month.
The commissioner urged residents to consistently maintain clean surroundings and not wait for government directives to engage in sanitation or movement restrictions.
