The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnaghe Itam, has ordered the deployment of the Command’s X-Squad operatives to various checkpoints across the state to ensure professionalism and discipline among officers.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the initiative aims to prevent extortion, harassment, and any form of misconduct by police officers, particularly towards travelers.
“The X-Squad team is tasked with ensuring that officers at checkpoints uphold the highest standards of professionalism,” Ikenga said. “They will closely monitor activities at these locations to ensure strict adherence to operational guidelines.”
The deployment, led by Chief Superintendent of Police Emeka Chukwuemeka, a former Public Relations Officer of the Command, is part of efforts to complement existing security personnel.
The CP emphasized that the initiative is in line with the policing principles of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
“The public deserves to be treated with dignity and respect,” CP Itam stated. “This deployment is a step toward ensuring better service delivery and accountability.”
The Command also announced the activation of a 24/7 Public Complaint Bureau and a Complaint Response Unit to address security concerns promptly. Residents and visitors are encouraged to report any errant officers for immediate disciplinary action.
For assistance or to lodge complaints, the public can contact the Control Room at 112 or call 07039194332. Other key contacts include the X-Squad Commander at 08033294280 and the PPRO at 08039334002.
“Members of the public play a critical role in maintaining accountability. We urge you to report any misconduct promptly,” Ikenga added.
