Tragedy struck in the Akoko North-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, as two commercial motorcyclists were killed in separate incidents.
One victim, identified as Dada Jatto from Iyani Akoko, had been missing for three days before the roadside discovered his body on Tuesday.
According to The PUNCH, a local source, Jatto’s body was found with multiple machete wounds, and his damaged mobile phone was located nearby, but his motorcycle was missing.
“He was a well-known okada rider in the town. His mutilated body was found close to Arigidi along the Oke Agbe road,” the source said.
The second incident involved another motorcyclist who was reportedly lured to an area between Ikare and Arigidi Akoko by his assailant.
A resident named Mustafa recounted that the attackers used a sledgehammer to smash the victim’s head. Although the victim was rescued and taken to a hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
Before passing away, he managed to describe his assailant, leading to the arrest of one of the attackers, who was found with the stolen motorcycle in Akunu Akoko.
Confirming one of the incidents, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, stated, “I can only confirm the incident in Iyani Akoko. Efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators, and the investigation has commenced.”
