In a major victory against terrorism in Nigeria’s North-West, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have neutralized several high-profile terrorist commanders and dismantled multiple hideouts across Zamfara and Sokoto states.
The coordinated military operation, which took place between February 1 and 10, 2025, significantly disrupted terrorist activities in the region, restoring a sense of security to affected communities.
According to The PUNCH, the Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, described the offensive as a major success in the fight against terrorism.
“Among those eliminated were notorious terrorist leaders, including Kachalla Na Faransa, Dogon Bakkwalo, Auta Gobaje, and Dan Mai Dutsi,” Abdullahi revealed in a statement on Wednesday.
According to him, the battles took place in Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Zamfara State and Isa LGA in Sokoto State.
Troops successfully destroyed over 40 terrorist hideouts, including those located in Tungar Fulani, Unguwar Goga, Gangara Hill, and Gidan Maji. In addition to eliminating the insurgents, the operation also led to the recovery of a large cache of weapons and ammunition, thwarting potential attacks on civilians.
Furthermore, the military rescued dozens of kidnapped victims, offering much-needed relief to families who had lived in fear.
Abdullahi reassured the public of the military’s commitment to sustained counterterrorism operations across the North-West and parts of Niger State.
“We urge citizens to provide intelligence on fleeing terrorists, including the notorious Bello Turji and his associates. Any information shared will be handled with the utmost confidentiality,” he stated.
The recent success of Operation Fansan Yamma, he added, represents a significant setback for terrorist groups in the region and strengthens ongoing efforts to restore peace and security.
