The Plateau State Government has taken legal action against Yusuf Gagdi, the lawmaker representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency, over his alleged re-award of a road construction contract initially granted by the state.
The lawsuit, identified as PLD/P5/2025, was filed at the Plateau State High Court in Pankshin by the Attorney-General of the state, P.A. Daffi.
The government seeks to halt Gagdi’s ongoing work on the 33km Gunji-Shiwer-Dokpai Road, which includes a spur to Tiplik, arguing that the project remains under a valid contract with Hajaig Nigeria Limited, awarded in 2008.
According to the plaintiffs, Gagdi lacks the constitutional or legal authority to reassign the project as part of his constituency initiatives.
The state is asking the court to affirm the contract’s validity and issue a perpetual injunction preventing both Gagdi and the construction firm, Orion Acres Ltd, from further involvement in the road’s development.
Additionally, they are demanding N100 million in general damages for what they term as unlawful interference in the project.
During Wednesday’s proceedings, state counsel P.A. Daffi urged the court to impose an interlocutory injunction to halt further construction.
However, Gagdi’s legal representative, Johnson Usman (SAN), objected, stating that the defendants still had time to respond to the motion and the originating summons.
Presiding over the case, Justice Charles Donglong ruled in favor of the defendants, granting them more time to file their responses.
The court adjourned the matter to February 27, when it will hear both the injunction request and the substantive suit.
