Abia Comets recently revealed the rationale behind their decision to release 21 players.
The Nigeria National League club made this announcement on Monday.
Club Chairman, Boniface Uche, explained that the move is part of a strategy to revamp the team for improved performance in the upcoming season.
He emphasized that the players let go were primarily those whose contracts had expired and those who were on loan.
Uche also reassured that higher-quality players will be brought in to strengthen the squad for the new season.
“I want to be quoted anywhere, Abia Comets is not owing any player nor staff. Everyone has been paid as at when due,” he told the media.
“We didn’t sack any of our staff, unless those whose contracts elapsed with the season. As we prepare for the new season, those of them that their services will be needed, will be recalled,” Uche added.
