The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has issued a weather forecast predicting dust haze across the country from Monday to Wednesday.
In the weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet reported that the northern region will experience a moderate dust haze on Monday, with visibility ranging from 2 to 5 kilometers.
It also mentioned the possibility of localized visibility of 1 km or less throughout the forecast period.
The North Central states will also face moderate dust haze, with visibility between 2 and 5 kilometers, and a localized visibility of less than or equal to 1 km.
In the southern parts of the country, early morning mist or fog is expected, along with moderate dust haze, which will result in a visibility range of 2 to 5 kilometers.
Looking ahead to Tuesday, NiMet forecasts thick dust haze in the northern region throughout the day.
The central region is expected to experience moderate dust haze, with visibility ranging from 1 to 3 kilometers.
For the southern areas, early morning mist or fog is expected over coastal cities, and moderate dust haze will persist, with visibility ranging between 1 to 3 kilometers during the day.
On Wednesday, thick dust haze is anticipated throughout the northern region and in the North Central zone.
The southern parts will again see early morning mist or fog over coastal areas, followed by moderate dust haze with visibility ranging from 1 to 3 kilometers.
NiMet also highlighted that dust particles are suspended in the air, urging the public to take necessary precautions.
People with respiratory conditions such as asthma should be particularly cautious during this period.
The agency advised the public to follow the safety recommendations issued by relevant authorities and encouraged airline operators to consult NiMet for specific airport weather updates to support effective planning for their operations.
