The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has officially approved a supplementary budget of N156,687,479,388.94 for the 2024 fiscal year, intended to bolster funding for various ongoing projects across the state.
The bill, titled A Bill for a Law to Issue Out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the State, was deliberated and passed during a legislative session on Wednesday in Lafia, the capital city of Nasarawa State.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, announced the approval of the bill, noting that this supplementary appropriation would provide additional financial resources necessary for the government to progress with and complete numerous projects currently underway.
He emphasized that, once signed into law by Governor Abdullahi Sule, the supplementary budget would equip the state’s executive arm to better meet development goals and address state infrastructure needs.
Jatau commended the executive branch for its considerable efforts to boost revenue generation in 2024, which he said had contributed to making this expanded budget feasible.
He also instructed the Clerk of the House to prepare a finalized version of the bill for the governor’s signature, which would formally enact it.
In his statement, the Speaker shared detailed adjustments to the budget, saying, “The total size of the recurrent expenditure after adjustment stands at N150,310,075,773.14, whereas the total size of the capital expenditure will be N206,256,774,325.22. The total size of the budget for the year 2024 after adjustment is N356,566,850,098.36.”
The legislative process saw Rt. Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala, the Deputy Majority Leader, introduce a motion for the bill’s third reading, which received support from Hon. Luka Iliya Zhekaba, the Minority Leader.
The House then voted unanimously in favor of the bill, advancing it towards the next step for enactment.
It’s worth noting that in December 2023, the Assembly had initially approved a budget of N199.8 billion for 2024.
However, with this newly passed supplementary bill, Nasarawa State’s total budget for 2024 now stands at N356.5 billion, providing significant additional funding for developmental projects.
