A series of crashes involving multiple vehicles caused major traffic congestion on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the NASFAT roundabout on Sunday morning.
According to The PUNCH, the accidents, which happened shortly after 7 a.m., involved two trucks and several smaller vehicles, leaving commuters stranded.
Emergency response teams from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Nigeria Police swiftly arrived at the scene to manage traffic, clear debris, and assist those affected.
Speaking on the incident, TRACE Deputy Commander for the Mowe-Ibafo axis, Kabir Ojerinde, provided preliminary details.
“According to an eyewitness, the crash occurred when a trailer heading from Lagos attempted to avoid colliding with a smaller vehicle that was crossing at the NASFAT roundabout,” Ojerinde explained.
“In the process, the trailer lost control and rammed into several other vehicles at the turning.”
Emergency responders have since moved one of the trucks, which was loaded with watermelons, off the road to help ease congestion.
Authorities have pointed to excessive speed and poor visibility as potential contributing factors, although investigations are still ongoing.
When asked about possible casualties, Ojerinde stated, “A report on the crash will be issued shortly.”
