Manchester United’s defender, Lisandro Martinez, is set for an “extended period” on the sidelines after reaggravating a foot injury that initially occurred last season.
Martinez’s injury woes began when he suffered a fractured metatarsal during Manchester United’s Europa League quarter-final match against Sevilla in April.
This initial injury sidelined him for approximately two months. However, recent developments suggest that the Argentina centre-back will once again face an extended period of absence.
Manchester United has confirmed that the foot injury continues to be a concern, hinting at a similar duration of recovery as before.
“Lisandro Martinez will be out of action for an extended period due to an aggravation of the foot injury he suffered in April,” a statement said.
“The Argentinian defender experienced the setback in our Premier League game against Arsenal earlier this month.
“Martinez bravely continued playing for the following two games against Brighton and Bayern Munich.
“But it has now been determined that he needs a period on the sidelines for recovery and rehabilitation. Assessment is ongoing to decide next steps.”
Also a “minor injury” will keep United defender Sergio Reguilon out of Saturday’s match against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, adding to United manager Erik ten Hag’s woes.
