Kenyan-born long-distance, John Koech and Ethiopian Herpha Guta, has emerged winners in the male and female category of the 8th Gold-Label Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the marathon started at 7:00 a.m. at National Stadium, Surulere, with Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, on the sidelines for a start.
The marathon has 50,000 runners, both local and international, competing for a $500,000 cash prize.
Koech who won the male category is a Kenyan-born long-distance runner who competes internationally for Bahrain.
He specialises in the 3000 metres steeplechase and was the winner of the event at the 2015 Asian Athletics Championships.
