A yet-to-be-identified driver has reportedly lost his life while attempting to flee from a potential attack on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The accident involved a blue Mercedes Benz truck with the registration number RBC110XJ and an ash Toyota Sienna car with the registration number EKY240HA.
According to accounts, the driver had collided with a commercial motorcyclist who was riding against traffic.
Fearing potential consequences, he attempted to escape by speeding away but tragically collided with a stationary truck along the road, resulting in his death.
An eyewitness, Opeyemi Lateef, who was in a bus behind the Sienna car at the time of the incident, stated, “Maybe he felt he had injured the commercial motorcyclist. Rather than waiting to see the condition of the commercial motorcyclist, the driver zoomed off and eventually collided with a truck in front.”
The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, confirmed the accident, noting that one person had lost their life.
Excessive speed was cited as the likely cause of the crash, which resulted in a loss of control, leading to the vehicle colliding with the truck. The deceased victim’s remains have been deposited at a morgue in Sagamu.
