Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, will battle Algeria in the final phase of qualifiers for the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Algeria secured their spot in this decisive round after a dominant 4-0 victory over Botswana in the second leg of their second-round tie on Sunday, sealing a 5-2 aggregate triumph.
The Flamingos, led by Bankole Olowookere, also advanced in style, overcoming South Africa 2-0 in Ikenne, Ogun State, on Saturday.
With a 5-1 aggregate win, the Nigerian team confidently booked their place in the final round of qualifiers.
Meanwhile, three other crucial matchups will determine Africa’s representatives at the tournament.
Kenya will take on Cameroon, Zambia will square off against Benin Republic, and Côte d’Ivoire will lock horns with Guinea.
Four teams will qualify for the World Cup, joining host nation Morocco in the expanded 24-team competition, set to take place from October 17 to November 8, 2025.
