Alexander Isak netted the fastest goal of the season for Newcastle United in their dominant 4-0 victory over Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
Isak found the back of the net within the first 30 seconds, giving his side an early lead, but the goal was initially ruled out for offside.
A lengthy VAR review followed, and the decision was overturned, confirming that Isak was onside.
Although Jacob Murphy appeared offside during the build-up, the VAR review concluded that Murphy was actually in an onside position, which led to the goal being awarded.
The Premier League Match Centre clarified, “1’ VAR OVERTURN Isak’s goal was disallowed for offside on-field. The VAR checked and established that Murphy was in an onside position in the build-up and recommended that the goal was awarded.”
Murphy then added a second goal for Newcastle in the first half, followed by Isak’s brace either side of halftime, completing his hat-trick.
The Magpies also had a goal ruled out in stoppage time when Dan Burn’s effort was flagged for offside, with VAR confirming the decision.
This win marked Newcastle’s third consecutive victory and their second straight 4-0 triumph in the Premier League under manager Eddie Howe.
The result propelled them into the top half of the table as they approached Christmas. Isak has now scored 11 goals for the club this season and has accumulated 26 goals in 37 games this calendar year.
Newcastle’s next match is against Aston Villa on Boxing Day, followed by a trip to Manchester United for their final game of 2024.
