The Ekiti State Government has approved over ₦14 billion for critical infrastructure projects, including roads, schools, water, and sanitation, across the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Ado Ekiti, the Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, revealed that the approvals were made during the State Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday.
One of the major projects is the rehabilitation of the Oke Ayedun–Ipao–Oke Ako–Irele Road, which has been awarded to Messrs Dromo Nigeria Limited for ₦4.623 billion.
According to Olatunbosun, the road, a crucial link between multiple communities, has deteriorated significantly, posing safety risks to residents.
The rehabilitation aims to restore functionality and provide seamless access for affected communities.
The council also approved ₦2.994 billion under the World Bank-supported Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene programme for the construction of 110 facilities in schools and health centres. Of these, 55 will be located in schools, while the remaining 55 will be sited in health centres across the state’s 38 local government areas and council development areas.
To further enhance water supply and hygiene services, ₦316.5 million was earmarked for procuring 110 Grundfos solar water pumps under the SURWASH initiative.
“The SURWASH programme has greatly improved the management and sustainability of water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure in Ekiti State,” Olatunbosun noted.
Additionally, ₦2.077 billion was allocated for additional works on the rehabilitation of the Hospitals Management Board/Doctors’ Quarters Road Extension to Apata Natha Junction Road in Ado Ekiti.
The council also approved ₦1.702 billion for constructing the Ekiti State Revenue House to address the inadequacies of the current Revenue Service building and support the agency’s growing needs. Olatunbosun highlighted the state’s innovative measures that have significantly boosted revenue generation.
Another key project is the construction of the Bovas Filling Station–Spotless Hotel Road in Ado Ekiti, which was awarded at ₦1.47 billion.
The project is expected to enhance connectivity and stimulate socio-economic activities in the area.
Olatunbosun emphasized the state government’s commitment to effectively implementing these projects to improve infrastructure, uplift living standards, and boost economic growth.
