Cross River State Police Command has apprehended a man identified as Mathias Amunde for allegedly murdering his mother in Obudu Local Government Area with the use of a stick.
According to an interrogation video shared on Instagram by user @isaacfayoseoriginal on Monday, Amunde, alongside an accomplice, reportedly struck his mother with a stick, dragged her body outside, and disposed of it in a well.
During questioning at the police station, the suspect disclosed that his accomplice fled the scene after they jointly threw the remains into the well.
Speaking in Pidgin, he explained (translated), “I and Walcot killed her. We killed her with a stick. Walcot has gone to his house. After we killed him, Walcot dragged him out of the house and we jointly dragged him to the well.
“After we got to the well, I opened it and we jointly carried her body and threw it into the well.”
The incident was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, who stated in an exclusive interview The PUNCH on Monday that the case would be escalated to the police command’s headquarters for further investigation.
“Yes, he has been arrested. He will be transferred to the police headquarters for further investigation tomorrow (Tuesday),” Ugbo confirmed.
