Bayern Munich goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, is set to miss the remainder of the year after sustaining a broken rib.
The club head coach Vincent Kompany confirmed in a statement ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Shakhtar Donetsk in Gelsenkirchen.
Neuer, who was absent from Bayern’s Bundesliga victory over Heidenheim on Saturday, adds to the club’s growing injury list.
The 38-year-old sustained the injury during last week’s German Cup defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, a match where he was sent off with a straight red card for the first time in his career after colliding with an opponent.
“He is nursing a broken rib. He will most likely not play anymore this year. It is important for this to heal and from January we’ll have him again,” Kompany explained during Monday’s press conference.
“It’s not too bad, but with so many matches it’s too early for him [Neuer] to play.”
