Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand, has congratulated Super Eagles of Nigeria on their win against South Africa in the semi-final of the 2023 Africa Cup Nations in Cote D’ivoire.
Ferdinand celebrated Nigeria hard fought win while posting a photo of himself holding a Nigerian old jersey on his X handle.
After a thrilling 1-1 draw in regulation time, the Eagles defeated Bafana Bafana 4-2 on penalties with Stanley Nwabali making two saves and Kelechi Iheneacho scoring decisive penalty.
The South Africans had to play the final minutes of the second half extra time with 10 men after Grant Kekana was sent off for fouling Terem Moffi who was goal bound outside the box.
The Eagles will take on the host country Cote D’ivoire on Sunday in the final.
Jose Peseiro’s side had met the Ivorians in group stage where the triumphed 1-0 thanks to defender William Troost-Ekong superb penalty kick. It will be a repeat of their group stage clash.
Cote D’ivoire edged DR Congo 1-0 in the second semi-final to make their first AFCON final appearance since 2015.
The final will take place on Sunday.
