Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has reiterated his administration’s dedication to ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
Speaking in Abeokuta on Friday during the presentation of new operational vehicles and motorcycles to the Ogun State Amotekun Corps, Abiodun, represented by his Chief of Staff, Toyin Taiwo, emphasized the importance of professionalism among the operatives.
He cautioned them against any form of misconduct, including extortion and harassment of citizens.
He urged the officers to embody integrity and uphold human rights, noting that their uniforms represent public trust.
“These operational vehicles symbolise our unwavering dedication to a safer Ogun State. However, beyond the tools and equipment, the effectiveness of our security operatives lies in discipline, professionalism, and intelligence.
“I, therefore, charge Amotekun operatives to conduct themselves with the highest level of integrity, respect for human rights, and commitment to duty. The officers must continue to uphold the values of diligence, fairness, and responsibility. Your uniform is a symbol of trust, so do not betray the confidence the public has in you.
“As you know, we have zero tolerance for abuse, so you are not expected to misuse your uniform while discharging your duties. The uniform confers trust that must never be betrayed. Security is not about oppression; neither is it an opportunity to extort, harass, or abuse the powers given to you as an Amotekun operative,” he said.
Abiodun highlighted intelligence gathering as a critical tool for effective security and urged the corps to strengthen ties with community leaders to identify and report suspicious activities.
Commending the Amotekun Corps for their role in community policing, intelligence gathering, and rapid response operations, he assured them of the government’s continued support while advising them to maintain the newly acquired vehicles properly.
The Corps Commander, Brig. Gen. Alade Adedigba (retd.), expressed appreciation to the governor for his continued support.
He revealed that since assuming office in August 2024 the state government had approved the recruitment of 700 new operatives, with an additional 1,000 currently in the recruitment process.
He noted that the latest vehicles and motorcycles supplemented those previously provided by the government, assuring residents that the corps would intensify efforts to safeguard lives and property.
