Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has restated his administration’s dedication to fostering discipline and efficiency within the state’s civil service to enhance governance.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, following an Iftar gathering at the Government House on Friday, where the governor hosted the state’s permanent secretaries.
Describing them as “the engine room of government operations,” Yusuf acknowledged their vital role in ensuring smooth administration.
He emphasized that despite having the authority to dismiss all permanent secretaries upon taking office, he chose to retain them due to their institutional knowledge and expertise.
“I had the right to fire all the permanent secretaries, but I understood their importance as the administrative backbone of our government,” the governor stated.
He urged them to embrace discipline and professionalism in their roles, stressing that accountability and efficiency would remain central to his administration’s approach.
“Considering this privilege, be mindful of the great responsibility ahead of you, and be reminded that the virtues of discipline must be upheld at all times and at all levels,” Yusuf added.
He further warned that his administration would not tolerate negligence or misconduct within the civil service, urging senior officials to lead by example.
