In a determined effort to maintain smooth traffic flow across Lagos State during the Yuletide season, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority to enhance nighttime traffic monitoring in key areas prone to congestion.
This initiative aims to ensure free movement for residents and visitors during the festive period.
The targeted zones include Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Lekki, Ajah, and other high-traffic areas, where LASTMA officers have been tasked with clearing road obstructions and managing incidents to prevent disruptions.
“We are committed to ensuring Lagosians experience seamless mobility throughout the holiday season,” the Governor emphasized.
In response to the directive, Hon. Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, instructed LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, to implement the mandate immediately.
Mr. Bakare-Oki confirmed the deployment of over 2,500 LASTMA officers, strategically stationed across Lagos to monitor traffic and intervene promptly when needed. The officers have been equipped with advanced tools, including heavy-duty and mini towing vehicles, to enhance efficiency.
“Our team is ready to address any traffic challenges as they arise. This initiative aligns with the Governor’s vision of a Lagos where mobility remains unhindered during and beyond the festive season,” Mr. Bakare-Oki said.
The designated areas for intensive traffic management include Ikoyi, Obalende, Victoria Island, and the Lekki-Ajah axis, which historically experience high traffic congestion.
Mr. Bakare-Oki urged residents to cooperate with LASTMA officers and adhere to traffic regulations to facilitate smooth operations. “We appeal to Lagosians to support this initiative by respecting traffic laws. Together, we can ensure stress-free movement during this period,” he added.
The Lagos State Government also reminded residents of LASTMA’s toll-free hotline, 080000527862, which is available for reporting urgent traffic issues.
