The digital revolution has reshaped Nollywood, with platforms like YouTube playing a key role in expanding the industry’s global reach.
Actress Imade Osawaru credits YouTube for providing an international audience for Nigerian films that might not reach cinemas or major streaming platforms.
In a conversation with Saturday Beats, she noted, “YouTube has been a game-changer for Nollywood. It provides a global platform for films that might not make it to mainstream cinemas or streaming services. While it broadens audience reach, it also challenges filmmakers to create compelling content that stands out in a digital space where viewers have endless options.”
As social media continues to blur the line between public and private life, Osawaru highlighted the importance of setting personal boundaries.
She acknowledged that while fans enjoy connecting with their favorite stars, some aspects of life should remain private for the sake of authenticity and peace of mind.
“Everyone has their preference, but I value a balance between openness and privacy. While social media allows fans to connect with celebrities, I believe certain aspects of one’s personal life should remain private. Protecting relationships from unnecessary scrutiny helps maintain their authenticity,” she explained.
Beyond her acting career, Osawaru advocates for financial security, emphasizing the need for actors to explore additional income streams.
“Yes, I believe having a side hustle is essential for actors today. While acting is a passion and career, the industry can be unpredictable. Exploring other income streams provides financial stability and creative freedom. For me, my love for food inspired my journey into the culinary space, and my entrepreneurial ventures have allowed me to grow beyond the screen,” she said.
For Osawaru, adaptability is key in Nollywood’s evolving landscape—both on and off the screen.
