Nigerian singer, songwriter, Brymo has slammed fellow musician Portable for asking him to collaborate on a song.
Brymo, who is known for his unique style of alternative folk and Yoruba music, took to his X handle to respond to Portable’s request. He wrote:
“Sorry Portable.. I no dey collaborate of late, and you dey so behind that you no get awareness say I be your industry head boy.. or you just prefer to identify with the days when I been dey like all else…and I go advise make you often dey talk about your concerns first.”
Brymo’s tweet implies that he is not interested in working with Portable, who he considers to be outdated and unaware of his status as a leader in the Nigerian music industry. He also suggests that Portable should focus on his own issues rather than reaching out to him.
Portable, whose real name is Oluwaseun Oluwatosin, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter who specializes in street pop music. He is known for his collaborations with other artists such as Naira Marley, Zlatan Ibile, Small Doctor and Qdot. He has not yet responded to Brymo’s tweet.
Brymo, whose full name is Olawale Ashimi Olawale, started recording music in 1999 while in secondary school. He signed a recording contract with music label Chocolate City in 2010 but was accused of breaching his contract in 2013. He has released 11 studio albums, including his latest one Mansa, which he exhibited as a sonic art project at KAP Hub in March 2023. He has also published three books and starred in two films.
Brymo is known for his outspokenness and controversial opinions on various issues, such as the Nigerian music industry, religion, politics and sexuality. He has been criticized by some fans and fellow artists for his arrogance and elitism, while others have praised him for his creativity and originality.
