The world’s oldest dog, Bobi, has been reported dead, five months after celebrating its extraordinary 31st birthday.
Born and raised at a family-run farm in Portugal, Bobi’s incredible longevity captured the hearts of many.
According to a report by the Daily Mail on Monday, the owner of a pet photography studio in Lisbon took to social media to announce Bobi’s passing, paying heartfelt tribute to the iconic canine.
“Rest in peace, friend. Thank you for granting us the privilege of meeting you, the oldest dog in the world. What an amazing life you had,” the owner expressed in the tribute.
In a remarkable milestone earlier this year, Bobi was awarded a Guinness World Record for being the world’s oldest dog, surpassing the previous record-holder, a chihuahua in Ohio, USA.
Bobi belonged to the rare and distinguished breed known as Rafeiro do Alentejo, a Portuguese livestock guardian dog.
Notably, Bobi also holds the prestigious title of the oldest dog ever, a distinction previously held by an Australian cattle dog that lived to an impressive 29 years and five months.
Bobi’s exceptional age was officially verified by his veterinarian and documented in a government-authorized pet database in Portugal.
Leonel Costa, Bobi’s dedicated owner, celebrated the dog’s 31st birthday with a grand party in May but has not yet made any public statements concerning the passing of his beloved companion.
