The wife of the Osun State Governor, Titilola Adeleke, has promised to support the widows and develop a program that will mitigate the effects of being a widow in any part of the state.
This was made know in a press statement issued by Titilola Adeleke to commemorate the 2023 International Widows Day, dubbed, ‘Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality’.
Commending the widows in the state for their courage in the midst of adversity, Adeleke revealed that the unfortunate loss of a partner is magnified by a long-term fight for their basic rights and dignity.
The statement read, “Widows go through their experiences of grief, loss, or trauma, after the death of a spouse, they may also face economic insecurity,discrimination, stigmatization and harmful traditional practices on the basis of their marital status.
“Today, as the world marks International Widows Day, I empathise with all widows and acknowledge the pains and challenges associated with widowhood. I salute all widows in the State for their resilience in this time of hardship and for their courage in times of despair.
“It is my heartfelt prayer that God, the true husband of widows, will strengthen and comfort them in hard times.”
Pledging assistance, Adeleke said, “I pray that Almighty God will strengthen and comfort all widows’ who are going through hard times.
“Also, I assure you that I will continue to develop an evidence based program that will cushion the effects of being a widow in any part of Osun State.”
