The spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has stated that the force does not arrest cross dressers as there are no laws incriminating them.
Adejobi made this declaration during an appearance on Monday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today.
He emphasized the difficulty in proving a case against cross dressers, stating, “There are some cases that are always very difficult to prove. I am not ruling out the fact that we have many of them.
“For instance, you want to prove a case of rape, rape has many points to prove, if any one of those points is missing, you might lose your case.”
Adejobi further explained, “You can’t arrest someone you want to prosecute without having credible evidence against such a person. I have not read anywhere if cross dressing is an offense per se. The allegation against some of them into cross dressing is that they are into something else per day, that’s where the problem lies.
“We need to actually have enough proof, credible evidence that they are actually into that. All those offenses are natural offenses in Nigeria and they are punished under our law.”
