The Confederation of African Football, on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, announced that the Super Sand Eagles will no longer play at the 2022 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations following the country’s withdrawal from the competition.
According to Daily Post, the withdrawal from the competition was due to a lack of funds.
In their group A fixtures, the Super Sand Eagles were expected to face Mozambique, Malawi and Morocco.
There will now be seven countries competing for the ultimate prize in the competition: Senegal, Uganda Madagascar, Egypt, Madagascar, Malawi and Morocco.
The withdrawal means Nigeria will not take part in the 2023 World Cup.
“As per the regulations, if a team withdraws before the start of the competition, the team against which the team in question has played in the qualifiers should be qualified. However, since this team is Libya, who have also withdrawn from the qualifiers, group A will consist of three teams only (Mozambique, Malawi & Morocco) and group B which has defending champions Senegal, Uganda, Madagascar, and Egypt. will not change,” a communication from CAF read.
The competition kicks off on October 21 at the Vilankulos Arena, Mozambique, and the final is expected to take place on October 28.
