The founder of Salvation Ministry, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, has explained why he does not watch national team of Nigeria, urging soccer fans to stop watching football matches that will make them develop high blood pressure.
The cleric made this explanation on Sunday while preaching during service in Port Harcourt, revealing that he no longer watches football matches involving the National team.
While explaining to his listeners on how to be moderate in one’s expectations from God, Ibiyeomie illustrated with the Nigerian football team, saying, “Others (national teams) have trained for years; then Nigerians will prepare, crash programme, everything is crash. Two weeks. And they will be praying. Your heart will be skipping [as you watch the match]. That’s why I don’t watch Nigerian football again. You have to pray for them to win every time.”
The cleric cautioned the congregation that, “Before they make your BP (blood pressure) go up, abeg, leave these people oo. Any result you hear, you keep it to your heart—if they win, okay oo; if they lose, okay oo. If they win, we say thank God; if they lose, we say thank God. That is, don’t expect [too much of them].”
