Benin Republic head coach, Gernot Rohr, has commended his team’s triumphant performance against Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
The Cheetahs secured a notable 2-1 victory at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Monday night.
Nigeria initially took the lead with a goal by Raphael Onyedika in the 26th minute.
However, the hosts made a remarkable comeback, securing their win with goals from Jordel Dossou and Steve Mounie.
Reflecting on the match, the former Super Eagles coach remarked, “It was a great game for us, this was the first time our ‘A’ team will beat the Super Eagles.
“It was difficult when we conceded the first goal, but the reaction was great and my young players did very well.
” I am happy for them. Their fighting spirit and organisation gave us our victory.”
Rohr also expressed his excitement about the influx of young talent into his team, noting that he has successfully reduced the average age of the squad from 29 years to 24 years.
