Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has reported to the Ogun State Police Command following an ongoing investigation into an alleged assault case.
The state police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed Portable’s arrival at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Wednesday afternoon.
“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the public that Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, arrived at the SCID, Eleweran, at exactly 13:23 hours today, February 19, 2025,” Odutola stated.
She added that his presence at the command is in connection with an ongoing investigation, assuring that due process will be followed.
Portable had earlier surrendered himself to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, before being handed over to the Ogun State Police Command.
The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this in a text message, stating, “Portable just turned himself in at the SCID, Yaba. We have contacted the Ogun State Police Command to come and pick him up.”
His surrender follows allegations that he and his associates assaulted three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development— TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi— during an enforcement exercise in Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu, Ota.
The Ogun State Police Command had earlier declared the singer wanted after he failed to respond to police invitations regarding the incident.
Following the reported attack, nine of Portable’s alleged accomplices were arrested and arraigned at the Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, facing charges of felony, assault, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. Prosecutors alleged that the suspects were armed with cutlasses and guns during the attack. They pleaded not guilty.
Prior to his surrender, Portable had addressed Nigerians in a series of videos, claiming to be undergoing psychiatric treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta.
“I am a madman undergoing treatment,” he said in one of the videos, appealing for leniency from the Ogun State Government and the public.
Meanwhile, the police have urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information regarding the case.
“We urge members of the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information,” Odutola stated. “The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to upholding justice and maintaining public order.”
