Real Madrid forward, Vinicius Jr., will be absent for his team’s upcoming Champions League fixture at Liverpool on Wednesday after suffering a muscle injury in his left leg during their 3-0 victory over Leganes in LaLiga over the weekend.
According to the club’s announcement on Monday, the Brazilian winger is expected to be sidelined for a period of three to four weeks.
As a result, Vinicius could miss as many as seven matches across all competitions before the winter break, including critical LaLiga fixtures against Girona and Athletic Bilbao, along with a crucial Champions League clash away to Atalanta.
Real Madrid confirmed the injury in a statement, “Following tests carried out today on our player Vini Jr by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg. Pending evolution.”
This latest setback adds Vinicius to an ever-growing list of injured players at the club. Key figures such as Rodrygo, Eder Militao, Dani Carvajal, Lucas Vazquez, Aurelien Tchouameni, and David Alaba are also on the treatment table, further stretching the team’s resources.
Real Madrid currently sit second in the LaLiga standings with 30 points, trailing Barcelona by four points after their 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo on Saturday.
However, the club faces an uphill battle in the Champions League after suffering two defeats in their last three matches, leaving them in a precarious position in the group stages.
With only six points from four games, Carlo Ancelotti’s side will be under pressure to secure a positive result at Anfield to avoid further jeopardizing their European campaign.
