Disgraced mogul and rapper, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, faced a major blow as Howard University unanimously revoked his honorary degree and returned his $1 million donation.
This decision came just days after he sold his majority stake in media company Revolt amid mounting sexual assault lawsuits and a federal sex-trafficking probe.
The Historical Black University took this action in light of a shocking video that surfaced in May showing Diddy physically assaulting his ex Cassie.
Following the release of the video showing him physically assaulting singer Cassandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura, rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs issued an apology.
“I was disgusted when I did it. I’m disgusted now,” Mr. Combs stated. “I went and I sought out professional help. I got into going to therapy, going to rehab. I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry.”
In a statement, Howard University’s Board of Trustees explained, “The Howard University Board of Trustees voted unanimously today to accept the return by Mr. Sean Combs of the honorary degree conferred upon him in 2014.
“This acceptance revokes all honors and privileges associated with the degree. Accordingly, the Board has directed that his name be removed from all documents listing honorary degree recipients of Howard University.”
Diddy had been granted the honorary degree by Howard University in 2014.
In December 2023, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs issued a statement defending himself against what he called “sickening allegations” made by “individuals looking for a quick payday.”
“Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged,” he stated, adding that he would fight to clear his name.
In March, federal agents raided two houses owned by the star “as part of an ongoing investigation” into sex trafficking.
His lawyer criticized the action as an “unprecedented ambush” and a “gross overuse of military-level force,” maintaining his client’s innocence.
