Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been placed on a “procedural” suicide watch as he awaits trial on three felony charges, according to source.
The accusations involve more than a decade of alleged abuse. Combs has been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in New York City since Monday night, with guards closely monitoring him to prevent any self-harm attempts.
The source described the suicide watch as a standard protocol for “high-profile clients” like Combs, emphasizing that the procedure is precautionary rather than indicative of any immediate risk.
“Combs remains strong and focused on his defense,” the source added, indicating that the 54-year-old rapper is resolute as his legal team strategizes for the upcoming trial.
On Wednesday, a judge denied Combs’ request for bail, leaving his defense attorneys to explore additional legal avenues in an effort to secure his release before the trial begins.
The charges against Combs include racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution, with allegations dating back to 2008.
Prosecutors claim that the rapper exploited his wealth and influence to orchestrate what they describe as “degrading” and “physically abusive” sexual encounters, which were allegedly part of a pattern of behavior spanning over a decade.
According to the indictment, Combs allegedly produced, directed, and recorded these extensive sex acts, referred to as “freak offs,” and reportedly coerced those around him to participate in or facilitate these encounters. “Threatened and coerced women and others around him to fulfill his sexual desires,” the prosecutors stated.
The federal investigation also uncovered over 1,000 bottles of baby oil and other lubricants from Combs’ residences, items that were allegedly used in these prolonged and orchestrated sex acts.
The sheer volume of these materials seized highlights the scale and planning involved in the acts Combs is accused of orchestrating.
