The mother of the 6-year-old boy involved in the shooting of his teacher, Deja Taylor, have received a two-year prison sentence for child neglect at Richneck Elementary School.
Taylor, who previously pleaded guilty to federal charges related to drug use and firearm possession, faced both state and federal sentences.
The firearm used by the child had been purchased by Taylor, and prosecutors highlighted the absence of secure storage measures for the gun.
Despite the recommended six-month sentence by prosecutors, the judge imposed a five-year term with three years suspended, coupled with probation mandating substance abuse treatment, parenting classes, and mental health support.
This state sentence will follow the 21-month federal term Taylor is currently serving.
