Two teenage boys have been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 13-year-old boy at his home in Oldbury, United Kingdom.
West Midlands Police confirmed that the two suspects were apprehended on Sunday and are currently in custody for further questioning.
The tragic incident occurred on Thursday at approximately 16:00 BST on Lovett Avenue, where the young victim was attacked.
The area surrounding the boy’s home has become a focal point for mourning, as dozens of floral tributes, candles, and teddy bears were placed outside to honour his memory.
The boy’s identity has yet to be publicly released. A spokesperson for the police commented, “The boys have been arrested on suspicion of murder,” adding that the victim’s family has been informed of the developments. “Our thoughts remain with them at this devastating time,” the spokesperson further stated.
The scene at Lovett Avenue remains under police watch, with officers standing guard at the house where the boy succumbed to his injuries despite the efforts of West Midlands Ambulance Service, who attended to him on Thursday. Sadly, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
In response to the tragedy, police have established an online portal for the public to submit any relevant information, photos, or videos that could assist in the investigation.
The community has shown a strong outpouring of grief, with one woman breaking down in tears after placing her tribute at the doorstep.
Local officers and youth workers are expected to be present in the neighbourhood in the coming days to provide support and address the concerns of residents.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, which has been grappling with the rising tide of knife crime.
In 2023, the West Midlands recorded the highest rate of knife-related offenses in England and Wales.
A long-time resident of the estate, who has lived there for more than three decades, expressed her disbelief upon learning the victim’s age. “It’s just getting worse,” she lamented, reflecting on the increasing violence in the area.
