Two passengers have been reported injured after a Toyota Hiace Bus collided with an Abuja-bound Petroleum Tanker in Kogi State, on Sunday.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the bus was on its way to Lokoja from Abuja on Sunday morning when it lost control and collided with a tanker on the other lane.
It was gathered that the petrol-filled tanker caught fire as soon as the bus hit it and was engulfed in flames that were blazing rapidly along the Lokoja-Abuja route.
Corps Commander Stephen Dawulung, Sector Commander of the Kogi Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed the incident and stated that there were no fatalities, and that the injured were rushed to Ideal Hospital Koton Karfe for treatment.
Dawulung, who characterised the incident as “very unfortunate,” attributed the collision to the recklessness of the bus driver, who was reportedly travelling at a high rate of speed.
“The Toyota Hiace Bus had summersaulted, crossed the road and hit an Abuja-bound DAF Tanker loaded with PMS.
“Thank God that some of our personnel on patrol carried out the rescue operation and rescued four persons from the Toyota Hiace and the tanker.
“Our men rushed two of the injured victims to Ideal Hospital, Koton Karfe, while other operatives are on traffic control to ensure free flow of vehicles across the scene,” he said.
