The Delta State Police Command has taken two suspects into custody for their alleged involvement in the brutal murder of a 10-year-old girl, who was killed with a machete.
This was revealed in a statement issued on Monday by the Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, through his account on X.
Sharing a video of the suspects being interrogated, Edafe wrote, “The boyfriend of the girl deceived one of the triplets, who is a sister to his girlfriend, and took her to meet two unknown men, where they used a machete to kill the little girl, who is 10 years old. They promised to give him ₦200,000, but even the ₦200,000, he didn’t see.”
Providing further details in the video, Edafe explained, “They are both boyfriend and girlfriend. The lady has triplets; she didn’t give birth to them but they are of the same parents. The triplets are 10-year-olds. The man came to his girlfriend and said, ‘Can you give me one of them? I want to use it for something.’ The girl declined but she didn’t raise an alarm. She didn’t report it to either the parents or the community. Later, the child went missing.
When the girlfriend realized one of the triplets was missing, she raised the alarm and revealed that her boyfriend had requested one of the girls.
“It was when they started looking for the child that the girlfriend realized this guy said he wanted to use one of her sisters for something. She then raised the alarm to her parents, informed the community, and they went for this guy and arrested him,” Edafe added.
One of the suspects, identified as 20-year-old Precious, confessed during the interrogation, saying, “I sent a guy to call her (one of the 10-year-old triplets). I then handed her over to the two boys, and they killed her with a cutlass.”
Locals apprehended the boyfriend and attempted to administer jungle justice, but the police intervened to stop the attack.
Precious was arrested, and his girlfriend was also taken into custody for failing to raise the alarm when he initially requested one of her sisters.
The two men to whom Precious handed the child remain at large.
Precious claims they have not paid him and insists he has no idea of their whereabouts.
Edafe further stated, “Up to this very moment, we can’t find remains of the child.”
