The Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, has urged those planning a nationwide protest from August 1st to 10th, 2024, to reconsider their decision for the nation’s benefit.
Tompolo, who holds the title Ibe-Ebidouwei of Ijaw Nation, acknowledged the prevailing hunger and hardship but assured that the President and his team are actively addressing the people’s pressing concerns.
In a statement signed on Friday, Tompolo echoed the concerns of the National Security Adviser, governors, and prominent traditional rulers expressed in the days leading up to the protest.
He called on Nigerians to exercise more patience with the President, noting that the economic difficulties predate the Tinubu administration.
He emphasized that Tinubu is diligently working to revive the economy through well-planned policies and programs.
Tompolo highlighted the comprehensive measures being implemented to tackle the country’s economic and security issues, which are interconnected with some of the nation’s challenges.
The Tantita Boss also warned that the planned protest’s timing is detrimental to the country’s interests, as security reports indicate a high likelihood of the protest being hijacked by individuals with ulterior motives.
He stated, “I am aware of Mr President’s efforts to get things right in the country, and truly things are getting better. For instance, there is a great improvement in the oil and gas sector in the last one year, which is still the mainstay of our economy.”
Tompolo acknowledged citizens’ right to protest government policies and programs as a vital part of governance.
However, he urged the organizers of the planned protest to reconsider, stressing that the timing is inappropriate and could result in more harm than good due to the risk of exploitation by malicious elements.
“It is against this background, that I have joined other Patriotic Nigerians to appeal to prospective protesters to call off the proposed protest and engage governments at all levels to find lasting solutions to the country’s problems.
“You must agree with me that the threat for protest, alone has achieved its aim, as Mr President has said it loud and clear, that he has heard the voice of prospective protesters,” he added.
