President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has underscored his administration’s dedication to rectifying years of neglect in the Niger Delta region through the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Addressing participants at the Niger Delta Stakeholders Summit 2024 in Port Harcourt, represented by Senate President Chief Godswill Akpabio, he emphasized the summit’s theme, ‘Renewed Hope for Sustainable Development of the Niger Delta Region’, as a pivotal moment.
“This administration heralds a new era of hope and prosperity, marking a significant turning point. This is our time to shine. To achieve lasting solutions, overcoming disunity is imperative. Unity among the people of the Niger Delta and the entire nation isn’t just desirable but necessary. Through a shared vision, we can surmount the challenges ahead,” he stated.
“The President remains deeply committed to Niger Delta development. The East-West Road is a priority, and the National Assembly, well represented here today, pledges to ensure its completion. Additionally, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project will commence from both Lagos and the Niger Delta simultaneously, ensuring comprehensive development.”
“Rice production and fish farming are pivotal for the Niger Delta’s sustainability. By focusing on agriculture, particularly rice production, we can not only meet local needs but also contribute significantly to the nation’s food security. Our identity should not be solely defined by oil reserves, but also by our agricultural achievements.”
Senate President Akpabio commended the NDDC Board and Management for impactful projects in the region, highlighting achievements such as the Ogbia-Emakalakala-Akipelai-Etiama-Nembe Road and significant electricity infrastructure in Ondo State.
Former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, chairing the occasion, affirmed NDDC’s crucial role in fostering hope, peace, and inclusive governance in the Niger Delta.
He emphasized the agency’s mandate to improve infrastructure, enhance livelihoods, and protect the environment.
