President Bola Tinubu has given his nod to the appointment of four new permanent secretaries for the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
According to The PUNCH, this move, announced on Wednesday, comes at a critical time as the FCTA prepares for the retirement of two of its current permanent secretaries.
.
In addition, the administration is introducing a Youth Development Secretariat, further necessitating these new appointments.
The newly appointed permanent secretaries reflect the diverse regions of the country, with Okeke Joy Chinwe representing the South East, Ajayi Rotimi Babatunde from the South West, and Nathan Nancy Sabanti from the North East.
These appointments aim to ensure a balanced representation in the administration, addressing the needs and interests of various regions within the FCT.
A significant aspect of these new appointments is the formalization of the position of the Solicitor-General within the FCTA. President Tinubu has approved the elevation of the Solicitor-General’s role to that of Solicitor-General/Permanent Secretary for the Legal Services Secretariat, a move that underscores the importance of legal affairs within the administration’s framework.
The statement released by the FCTA Director of Press, Anthony Ogunleye, highlights the President’s rationale for these changes.
The statement read, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of four permanent secretaries for the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
“These appointments were necessitated by the imminent retirement from the service of two permanent secretaries and the creation of the Youth Development Secretariat.
“President Tinubu also approved the formalisation of the position of the Solicitor-General of the FCT Administration as Solicitor General/Permanent Secretary for the Legal Services Secretariat. The swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries and the Mandate Secretary for Youth Development Secretariat will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024.”
