President Bola Tinubu landed in Beijing, China, on Sunday for an official state visit and to participate in the 9th Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit.
The summit, themed “Joining Hands to Advance Modernisation and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future,” aims to foster closer ties between China and African nations.
According to a statement shared on social media by Dada Olusegun, Tinubu’s Special Assistant on Social Media, the Nigerian President is scheduled to meet with his Chinese counterpart, President Xi Jinping, and engage with Chinese business leaders.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrives in Beijing for his official state visit to China,” Olusegun wrote on X.com. “He will meet with President Xi Jinping and hold meetings with Chinese business leaders on the sidelines of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.”
Upon his arrival, President Tinubu was welcomed by a delegation that included Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani; and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, alongside various officials from both Nigerian and Chinese governments.
The state visit, which was extended by President Xi Jinping, is expected to bolster economic cooperation between the two countries and attract significant investments to Nigeria.
A statement from the Presidency highlighted that the visit aims to “enhance economic collaboration and attract investments to Nigeria.”
During his stay, President Tinubu will also visit major Chinese companies such as Huawei Technologies and the China Railway and Construction Corporation, with a focus on expediting the Ibadan-Abuja section of the Lagos-Kano rail project.
Additionally, Tinubu is set to meet with the CEOs of 10 leading Chinese corporations, which manage assets exceeding $3 trillion in industries including information and communication technology oil and gas, aluminum production, seaport development, finance, and satellite technology.
