An explosive attack has led to the death of three police officers were killed, while 10 others were left injured in the Mexican state of Jalisco.
The incident has been confirmed by the governor of the State, Enrique Alfaro through his official Twitter account.
“This is an unprecedented event that shows what these organized crime groups are capable of,” the governor said. “This attack also represents a challenge against the Mexican state as a whole.”
The western state is the headquarters of the Jalisco New Generation cartel, one of Mexico’s most prominent drug trafficking organisations with a presence throughout the country and a history of conflict with rival criminal syndicates.
Jalisco’s security cabinet, according to Alfaro, is “in permanent session” to examine the incident, which has not been linked to a specific criminal organisation.
According to police authorities, the incident occurred soon after 8:00 p.m. Tuesday (0200 GMT Wednesday), with reports indicating a vehicle on fire with five persons inside in Tlajomulco de Zuniga, a neighbourhood of Guadalajara.
There were forensic investigators on the site, as well as multiple ambulances transporting the injured to the hospital.
