Residents of Oganienugu community in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, have been thrown into a state of tension as yet-to-be-identified gunmen reportedly killed the ward Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Hon James Adah.
According to The PUNCH, it was also reported that several other residents of the community were also killed.
It was reported that the gunmen stormed the community in the middle of the night on Sunday and started shoot sporadically and indiscriminately.
Following the incident, the Kogi Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has called for calm among the residents of the community and state at large.
He described the attack as “vile and satanic attack and a calculated assault on the peace-loving people of Oganenigu who have enjoyed relative peace and security.”
Bello further stated that his administration will continue to remove crisis entrepreneurs from the state and guarantee that those implicated are held accountable under the law.
He described the attacks as “horrific,” adding that “the administration would never yield to the schemes of cruel forces in its resolve to rid the state of criminals.”
He expresses his condolences to the people of Oganenigu, especially the family of the dead Oganenigu APC ward chairman, Hon James Adah, and others affected by the “ugly and sad incident,” and urges them to remain calm.
He did, however, warn the public not to take the law into their own hands because security forces have been quickly mobilised and dispatched to difficult areas to restore normalcy.
