Former presidential candidate and activist, Omoyele Sowore, has announced that he has been offered bail after engaging with the Force Intelligence Department of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja on Monday.
Sowore clarified that he would reject any bail terms he believes could compromise his “innocence, dignity, and integrity.”
The activist was summoned over multiple allegations, including obstructing public officers, cyberstalking, disobedience to lawful orders, and attempts to resist arrest.
In a statement shared on X, Sowore claimed his ordeal stems from his outspoken criticism of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun’s tenure extension.
He further alleged that the police aim to detain him and transport him to Lagos for what he described as a “kangaroo trial.”
Providing an update, Sowore disclosed in a later post that Deputy Inspector-General of Police for the FID, Dasuki Galandachi, informed him of his bail offer while investigations continue.
“The DIG of FID, Dasuki Galandachi, at the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja had just informed me that he has instructed his personnel to grant me bail, pending the conclusion of the ‘investigation,’” Sowore stated.
“I have also advised the DIG that in accepting ‘bail,’ I will not agree to conditions that compromise my innocence, dignity, and integrity.
“If such unreasonable conditions are imposed, I will choose to remain in detention until I am charged to court, even then I know that there is no crime defined or to be investigated; it is just the impunity that has become the hallmark of the PoliceNG hierarchy,” he added.
