The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions has postponed its disciplinary hearing against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central.
The proceeding, originally scheduled for Thursday, March 6, has been rescheduled, according to a letter issued by the Clerk to the Committee, Christian Onwusonye, on Wednesday, March 5.
The letter, referenced NASS/S/10/EPP/DSNAU/2, was addressed to Akpoti-Uduaghan, informing her that the hearing will now take place at Meeting Room 120 in the New Senate Building, National Assembly, Abuja.
The development follows a clash between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a plenary session on February 20. The Kogi Central lawmaker had objected to her assigned seat and repeatedly raised a point of order despite being overruled by Akpabio.
Senator Yemi Adaramodu, representing Ekiti South, later raised concerns over the incident, arguing that it had damaged the Senate’s image. Consequently, the Red Chamber referred Akpoti-Uduaghan to the Ethics Committee for a disciplinary review.
In the letter announcing the rescheduling, the committee assured the senator that the change of date did not affect the contents of the earlier invitation.
“The rescheduling of the date of the Public Hearing does not invalidate the other contents of the letter earlier sent to you on the same matter,” the letter stated.
The committee also apologized for any inconvenience caused by the sudden adjustment.
“The Committee regrets any inconvenience the sudden change of date may have caused. Accept the assurances of the Committee’s highest esteem, please,” the letter added.
